Onne

Onne is an interactive map of the Swedish part of Sápmi, the homeland of the Indigenous Sámi people. The red regions are different infringements upon the land.

The map is created to show how the continously spread narrative that the “reindeer-herding Sámi people have too much land and too many rights” does not at all align with reality.

Onne is built using satellite data from the European Space Agency as well as data from state agencies such as the Swedish mapping authority and the Swedish Meteorological/Hydrological Institute. It’s created by Petter Schölander in dialogue with reindeer herding Sámi people, academics and with legal guidance by Sámi & Indigenous rights lawyer Rebecka Ekberg.
